Cuebric and Disguise Revolutionize Virtual Production with AI-Driven Near 3D Cinematic Solution

Advanced Plug and Play Platform Creates Camera-Ready Virtual Environments in Minutes

Boston, Massachusetts (December 6, 2023) – Creative-led artificial intelligence production software company Cuebric today announced a new partnership with Disguise, a world leader in virtual production technologies as seen in TOP GUN: MAVERICK, THE JOKER, and more. The union between Cuebric and Disguise revolutionizes virtual production, making the creation of fully segmented 2.5D virtual environments easier and more cost-effective than ever before.

With Cuebric’s software integrated into the Disguise platform, creatives will now have the power of AI at their fingertips, creating a vivid, photorealistic plug and play 3D environment that can be exported to an LED soundstage, ready for filming in minutes. This revolutionary workflow allows anyone to tell incredible, immersive stories, regardless of budget.

“Cuebric democratizes filmmaking, removing the cost barrier to creating gorgeous, immersive sets and backgrounds with its plug and play 3D solution. Leveraging AI to minimize the tedious and maximize the extraordinary in the creative process will breathe new life into the production industry,” said Cuebric co-founders Pinar Seyhan Demirdag and Gary Lee Koepke. “Desire and demand for extraordinary content has never been greater, so there is no better time to be partnering with Disguise to put the full power of generative AI into the hands of the world’s greatest creators and filmmakers.”

To create a 2.5D scene, users can either add purely generative content or import images from elsewhere into the Cuebric platform. Cuebric then leverages AI rotoscoping and AI inpainting to segment the image into layers, so that the scene can be transformed from 2D to 2.5D based on depthmaps of the layers. Once the Cuebric 2.5D scene is imported into Disguise’s Designer software, each individual layer is then mapped on an auto generated mesh, meaning that the individual plates are not limited to flat planes but become 3D shapes. This results in a more realistic parallax effect that works no matter how the camera moves on set.

“Real-time environments look spectacular on-camera, yet often require many hours of artistic and technical build,” said Addy Ghani, VP of Virtual Production at Disguise. “Thanks to our partnership with Cuebric, there’s another option. Using generative AI, artists can build 2.5D plates, helping them go from concept to camera in minutes so they can tell unique stories in a way that works for them.”

Using Cuebric and Disguise, users can easily make changes and iterations in the virtual environment during production, allowing for a more dynamic and creative process and avoiding costly reshoots.
