April 9 Preview of First Film in Doc10 Slate Reveals Thrilling Story of Russian Opposition Leader

CHICAGO, Illinois – The Doc10 Documentary Film Festival today announced a special one-night-only Chicago premiere screening of Sundance hit NAVALNY to be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the Gene Siskel Film Center (164 N. State St.). Directed by Daniel Roher, the film is the first title announced as part of this year’s Doc10 program, which runs May 19 - 22, 2022.

A riveting chronicle of the attempted assassination of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny and its aftermath, NAVALNY goes up-close with the man that the Kremlin hates the most. Winner of the 2022 Sundance Audience Award, the film follows Navalny as he and his team root out the men in real time who nearly murdered him. In the process, they reveal the deep inner-workings of Russia’s malicious secret operations and the harrowing challenges of dissent in an authoritarian regime.

“Doc10’s films speak to the moment,” said Doc10 founders Paula Froehle and Steve Cohen. “Confronting Russia’s current political leadership could not be more urgent, given world events, and we are proud to present this exclusive Doc10 screening of NAVALNY as the first film in this year’s lineup, ahead of this year’s Doc10 in May.”

“Along with the filmmakers and distributors of NAVALNY, we recognize there’s a timeliness in getting this story out to audiences,” said Programming Director Anthony Kaufman. “At Doc10, the film is just the beginning of the conversation, and our post-screening discussion will add further context and insight into this ever-changing global crisis.”

NAVALNY is produced by Raefilm Studios’ Odessa Rae, Fishbowl Films’ Diane Becker and Melanie Miller and Cottage M’s Shane Boris. Amy Entelisand Courtney Sexton of CNN Films, and Maria Pevchikh, are executive producers. CNN Films holds linear broadcast rights for NAVALNY in North America and will premiere the film for television on CNN.

The complete Doc10 program will be announced next week; subsequent screenings will take place at the Davis Theater and the Gene Siskel Film Center May 19 - 22.

The exclusive Doc10 screening of NAVALNY will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. at the Gene Siskel Film Center (164 N. State St.). Immediately following the presentation, Doc10 will host a panel discussion with filmmakers and special guests. Tickets are $16, with discounts available for students, seniors, and military, and are available at www.doc10.org.

Doc10, presented by CMP, runs May 19 - 22, 2022 at the Davis Theater (4614 N. Lincoln Ave.) and the Gene Siskel Film Center (164 N. State St.). Tickets are $16, with discounts available for students, seniors, and military. The full slate of titles will be announced shortly, and tickets will go on sale at www.doc10.org.
