New York, NY (May 6, 2024) – IFC Films today released the first trailer for GHOSTLIGHT, acquired by the studio out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film, co-directed by Chicagoans Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan, and written by O’Sullivan, and starring Chicago family of actors Keith Kupferer, Tara Mallen, and Katherine Mallen Kupferer, will hold its Chicago premiere as the Closing Night presentation at the Chicago Film Critics Association Film Festival on Thursday May 9, before opening in Chicago and New York on June 14, 2024 and expanding nationwide thereafter.

When melancholic construction worker Dan finds himself drifting from his wife and daughter, he discovers community and purpose in a local theater’s production of Romeo and Juliet. As the drama onstage starts to mirror his own life, he and his family are forced to confront a personal loss.
GHOSTLIGHT made its world premiere on January 18, 2024 at the 40th Annual Sundance Film Festival as a part of the festival’s Premieres section, where it was met with enthusiastic acclaim from Park City audiences and critics alike. It also made a lauded appearance at last month’s SXSW Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Audience Award. Damon Wise of DEADLINE called the film “a feat of screen magic,” and Kate Erbland of INDIEWIRE heralded it as “a reminder of how bright a light one story can shine on everyone.” The film is also set to make appearances at several upcoming festivals ahead of its June release date.
Thompson and O’Sullivan’s previous film, SAINT FRANCES, received widespread praise on the regional festival circuit and national stage, including nominations from the Film Independent Spirit Awards and The Gotham Awards. The film was a Top Ten Independent Films winner at the National Board of Review and won both the Audience Award and Special Jury Award at SXSW.
GHOSTLIGHT is co-directed by Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan, and written by O’Sullivan. The film stars real life Chicago family Keith Kupferer, Tara Mallen, and Katherine Mallen Kupferer; and Dolly De Leon. Luke Dyra is Cinematographer, the film is edited by Mike S. Smith. The film is produced by Alex Thompson, Chelsea Krant, Pierce Cravens, Ian Keiser, Eddie Linker, and Alex Wilson. GHOSTLIGHT has a running time of approximately 115 minutes, and opens June 14, 2024 in Chicago and New York before expanding nationwide on June 19, 2024.
